STIs or STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) are usually passed through sexual contact with an infected partner. They include many diseases such as HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital herpes, genital warts, hepatitis, syphilis, and others.

STDs are widespread – more than 2.5 million people in the U.S. are infected each year. Having a STI can make you more likely to get HIV.

Talk about your testing needs with your health care provider.

The Florida Department of Health in Holmes County’s STD Program works with the community to eliminate the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and diseases (STDs). We provide comprehensive testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases.

All services are confidential. Clients are evaluated for STDs in the integrated clinic where testing is performed for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and/or HIV. No results will be given over the phone, a return visit is required. Partner notification is available through professional disease intervention specialists. Prevent the spread of STDs with the Three T’s:

  1. Talk: Talk openly and honestly to your partner(s) and your health care provider about sexual health and sexually transmitted infections.
  2. Test: Get tested. It’s the only way to know for sure if you have an STI/STD.
  3. Treat: If you test positive for an STI/STD, work with your health care provider to get the correct treatment.
